A Thorncrown Chapel & Crescent Hotel Wedding | Eureka Springs Wedding Photographer

Laura and Jamie had a wonderfully small and intimate wedding nestled in the woods and mountains of Eureka Springs, Arkansas this past Friday. Even though it was small they had put so much thought into the details. The locations, her dress, his boutonniere and her bouquet were all stunning. Their ceremony took place at Thorncrown Chapel and their reception was at the 1886 Crescent Hotel & Spa in the Conservatory. It was chilly weather but the overcast sky lent itself to perfect lighting for their wedding in the glass chapel. Everything was so romantic and emotional. They even made me tear up more than once. But those are the best kinds of weddings--where you can just feel and see the love between a bride and groom and among their family and friends. I couldn't have asked for better circumstances, people and locations for capturing these images. Enjoy!

This year has already involved a lot of traveling for me with weddings and photo shoots, which I love, but much to my surprise I got to attend & photograph my own brother's wedding this March. Which meant I was traveling again, but this time to his home state of Texas.

Susan is the one. The first time he brought her home to Kansas City to meet the family I was so in love with her I knew I'd have to disown him if he let her get away. Thankfully, for everyone, I don't have to do that! :o)

Susan's parents hosted their intimate ceremony and reception in their lovely home in the high country. Surrounded by prickly pears and beautiful scenery, their home was the perfect setting for a wedding. But it's the people that really made it unforgettable.

Joe, Jennifer & Ashlynn : A Birmingham AL Family Session

I have been friends with Jennifer now for a couple years but unfortunately never get to see her as she lives in Alabama. She has always said if I was ever in AL to let her know--she would love for me to take pictures of her family. I had never been to AL until our family road trip in February so when I found out the route we'd be taking I let her know right away. We met up early in the morning at the Botanical Gardens and spent a couple hours playing with Ashlynn and getting her pictures before she turns the big 2 this May. The weather was beautiful and little Ashlynn is only a week older than my little one so they have a lot in common. We had a great time and I didn't want to leave. Our visit was much too short, but am so glad we got to finally do this.

I visited the Davis family at their home for their session with their two little girls and an old but still feisty Basset Hound. These girls were the giggliest girls I have ever met. I'm not sure what Mom & Dad told them before I got there but they giggled non-stop. And that's okay with me--whatever it was, it worked! We got some really fantastic shots of them laughing it up and such great natural smiles from everyone.

I had the pleasure of meeting the wonderful Nichols family last Saturday. All three kids did such a great job and are all too adorable for words! There was a bit of urgency to their session as one of their sons is currently in remission from a kidney disease which usually makes him all puffy. So I had to get them all into the studio ASAP while he was looking more like himself.

I had so much fun with them. A bunch of hams really. A few "tooting" jokes really got the kids giggling. I mean, who doesn't love a tooting joke?!

Maternity Photography : Amy's Session

Amy and her family came to the studio last week for her maternity session. We also took a few family shots with her husband and sweet little boy. I'm not sure he knows what having a little sister will mean for him as of yet, but he definitely knows something's up. "Mommy's tummy is getting BIG," he pointed out to me. :o)

I love doing maternity sessions. Pregnant women are so beautiful and Amy was, to use the cliche, just glowing. Love the belly!

Shannon & her fiancee are getting close to tying the knot so it was time to squeeze in some engagement pictures before the big day! They are both originally from Arkansas where they had never had much snow each winter. So, welcome to Kansas City, where the last 2 winters have been nothing but snow storm after snow storm! :o) We started out inside, but I was so glad they were brave & adventurous enough to spend the second half of their session outside, getting their feet in some of that snow. What a fun couple!

For the next snowy session I shoot I'm thinking snow angels will be a must! Who's game??

I met the Sowers family at their home for a photo session with their sweet little boy who just turned one year old. I followed him around as he played with his favorite toys and explored his home. He even tested his skills on the stairs for me. But my favorite part of our session was when I suggested we get out some pots & pans on the kitchen floor and he played some music for us. Always a favorite pastime among the diaper set!

Baby Joe is just 9.5 weeks old and so alert and focused. A serious little man, he studied me and fixed his big brown eyes on me which made for some really great images. I didn't have to work to get his attention, but by the end of the session he was so worn out from all the work he did he fell asleep in his dad's arms before I even finished packing up.

He is such a sweet and good-natured little boy. I love baby photography! {and babies too!!}

Every time I see their last name I think, "How fitting is it for a family's last name to be 'Close'?" It's pretty perfect as it's very true. I met this charming family at their home for their session. They welcomed me in with such warmth. The Close family has been a joy to work with and photograph!

And this little girl won me over in a heartbeat. She kind of steals the show, but I don't think they mind. ;o)

Little Sloane was as chilly as could be for her wintry session. But she was turning 2 in just a week so timing was everything. Birthdays don't wait for the weather, after all. ;o) Halfway through her session we headed indoors for some much needed warmth and we were all a lot happier!

She is such a cutie and was so much fun to chase around and photograph. I had some nice surprises during editing since I wasn't sure quite what I was capturing while shooting. She was a mover on a mission to explore the world! So I just shot a LOT and came up with some pretty adorable captures.

When Trey's mom, Candy, called me up to schedule his senior photo shoot I knew right away that it would be a fun one--Trey's favorite season is winter and there happened to have just been a lovely snow storm leaving us with several inches of snow. It was spontaneous, because we needed that snow, yet sooooo cold. A high of 12 the day we had scheduled, so we put it off for a couple days until it was a balmy 26 degrees. The sun was out & Trey did a fantastic job of not looking as cold as I know he was!

Sylvie's Baby Session

Miss Sylvie is 3 months old and so smiley! A very calm baby too which made my job of capturing her cuteness really easy. It met her, her mom and her older sister, Harper, this morning in their home. Harper had some really cute baby pictures taken so now it was Sylvie's turn in front of the camera. Here are just a few of my favorites!

Britton's Senior Session

Now it's time to catch up on some of the winter & holiday portraits from last month.

I started out December with a Groupon feature...and sold 300 sessions! This will be a busy and exciting year for sure! I hope you enjoy all the new work.

This maternity session resulted in some really beautiful images that are among my favorites of the month.

These twin sisters were adorable and love the camera.

I think he's making out his Christmas list in his head here & is more than ready for Santa!

I love babies and this little sweetie came equipped with the most squeezable cheeks. I couldn't help holding her just for a bit between shots.

A super fun couple's session on the Plaza. This was a great day for it too! Still completely in love when they cuddled & looked into each others eyes. I love that! I can't wait to photograph their daughter's senior session in a few months.

This baby had patience & curiosity like you wouldn't believe. She was usually looking everywhere else but at me...the studio lights were especially fascinating. And I love her curls!

An in-home engagement session. A first for me! I love my job. I get to do new things & meet new people every day! I loved this moment of them in their living room, all trimmed for Christmas.

Another great session on the Plaza. This one with the Silva family. Some of them were only in town for a short while for the holidays--all the way from Africa, so it was a fantastic time to get some photos with everyone together.

Out with '10, Welcoming in '11-- Groupon, Weddings, Portraits, oh my!

I cannot believe how fast the last few months of the year flew by...and that I haven't posted new work on the blog since October. I have some catching up to do! The holidays are always busy with last minute photo sessions, orders, album designs from all those summer & fall weddings and this past holiday season was exceptionally busy.

December was a whirlwind with being featured on Groupon on the 2nd and 3rd of the month. Followed by Julie & Joe's wedding on the 4th in New Town St. Charles, MO. Parties, holidays, (getting horribly sick), wedding consultations (from all those newly engaged couples over the holidays) and already LOTS of new portrait sessions happening and more being scheduled every day, even into June & October.

So, first comes Julie & Joe's long overdue blog post (I posted first on Facebook where I know they check more often). This is for the viewing pleasure of everyone else. ;o)

Julie & Joe were married in a cute little chapel in New Town St. Charles, MO, a "New Urbanist" kind of planned town. The kind of town Norman Rockwell would have approved of. Especially the quaint tree lighting ceremony that was about to take place as Julie, Joe & I took portraits after their ceremony around the town square. People either find the town adorable and cozy or... a little creepy in all its perfection. A bit like the town Jim Carey lived in in The Truman Show. But I am one that loves this town for all its charm.

Their reception took place not far away and they ended the night by jumping into the band & playing a few of their favorite tunes! Here are some of my favorites from their day.

Starting with the dress...

Lots of help with the birdcage veil. I love these!!

Some of you who are followers of the blog may recognize these shoes in white from Ashley & Adam's wedding. I love them in black too! Very dramatic. They went perfectly with their theme of "Old Hollywood Glamour."

Joe, always posing. Even when he's not trying to be, he's still a ham.

Okay, so Julie is my sister-in-law, so this wedding was very dear to my heart. I cry at every wedding I cover at some point during the day. But I have to admit it was pretty hard to shoot through my own tears on this one. The second I looked over and saw my mother-in-law taking gasping sobs as Julie made her way down the aisle, I lost it!

This chapel is really special to Julie & Joe because Joe is a master Venetian plaster craftsman and did all the plaster work in this building. There are not many like him in the country who can do authentic historic plaster work. He trained in Chicago and has even worked on the Kansas State House in Topeka, KS. He's a true artist.

Brrr! A quick exit into the frigid temps through some bubbles before dashing right back inside!

Tiffany & Kyle Married at the Robidoux Landing Playhouse

While Tiffany & Kyle are enjoying their honeymoon in Hawaii I wanted to post a preview of their wedding. I know Tiffany is a big Facebook user so these will be going there next. Kyle & Tiffany love fall so we first met last fall for their engagement session. Tiffany & I kept in touch quite often over the last year so when the wedding day arrived it certainly didn't feel like it'd been a year since we'd seen each other!

Kyle & Tiffany were married on the popular date of 10.10.10. There should be no trouble remembering that anniversary date! Their wedding and reception were held at the Robidoux Landing Playhouse in St. Joseph, MO. The building used to be a cracker factory. The place was small & dark, but perfect for their intimate little wedding. The place had a lot of character and the way Tiffany styled everything was really beautiful. Their wedding colors were chocolate brown, latte and just a hint of sage green. They stood on the stage for their ceremony; Kyle had a bit of stage fright but no cold feet! The guests watched from their tiered seating at dinner tables--a fun mix of dinner theater & a wedding!

I hope you enjoy your preview Tiffany & Kyle! Congratulations again and best wishes for many years of happiness!!

The pictures were a really important part of the wedding day for these two and Tiffany even brought along a couple props for their portrait time. I love the umbrella!

Kyle & Tiffany got one too, their's is below. My mom/2nd photographer & I also had one drawn! That is a first for us at a wedding, but so much fun!

Sal & Gina's Fall Wedding at Our Lady of Sorrows

Gina first contacted me almost a year before their wedding day. I documented Adam & Ashley's wedding last September and Gina's mom is friends with Adam's mom. I love working with people who were referred to me by past clients and their families because I know we are already starting off on strong ground--and there's no bigger compliment than a referral. Gina & Sal had no problem trusting in my skills and creativity and that's always a relief, and allows me to do some of my best work. We met over the summer to do their engagement session and I met all of their siblings then so I already knew half the wedding party by the wedding day! We had a blast!

On their wedding day when I walked into the hotel room where Gina was getting ready, it was like walking in to see old friends. I was instantly greeted by her sisters and mother. The weather was a warm & perfect fall day--good thing since they had allowed lots of time for pictures outside later. I just in time to capture her getting her dress on. Then Gina & Sal had their "First Look" in their room at the Argosy Hotel.

It was a whirlwind day and these two are so meant for each other. Every time I'm able to witness love like this it reminds me why I love my job so much. Their ceremony was at the beautiful Our Lady of Sorrows near Crown Center and the Hallmark campus. The reception followed at The Argosy Ballroom. Here are just some of my favorites that tell the story of their oh-so-Italian wedding day.

I captured this shot as the sun was setting. While in college I used to work at a law firm near this church (near Crown Center/Hallmark) so I used to see this church every day & think to myself "I'd love to shoot a wedding there someday!" I have always loved this church.

Cherah + Colt's Engagement Shoot

Cherah & Colt are getting married next year at the Lee Andrews Hall in Blue Springs. So they requested an engagement session for this fall, along with some ideas for specific looks they wanted and left it up to me to suggest some great places. I'm always looking for a good excuse to do some new location scouting around town and thanks to their requests I found some fabulous new areas! And within close driving distance which makes everyone happy!

They were both so much fun during their photo shoot and relaxed right away--complete naturals which makes my job sooo easy. Aren't they adorable together? And Cherah was so brave going without shoes in the weeds & muddy gravel drive. Colt was such a gentleman though & carried her around. :o) I am totally in love with all these images so I have been eager to get them edited & posted up here to share! I smiled back at them on the computer screen the whole time I edited. I am so looking forward to their wedding next year!

Working With Your Wedding Vendors

Working With Your Wedding Vendors

"Part of the objective of {ELD} is to educate brides throughout the wedding planning process. So, I thought that sharing some tips about working with wedding vendors would be beneficial to both brides and vendors. No, these aren’t bad things or industry secrets. These tidbits are just things to consider when working with your wedding vendors.

- Go to your meetings prepared. Bring photos, swatches, contracts- whatever you desire really. Have a couple of questions. If you don’t have any clue about what to expect for the meeting, it doesn’t hurt to ask beforehand. If you’re going to an initial consultation, have an idea in your head of what you want your wedding to be like. If you’re at a complete loss, try the {ELD} Style Dictionary for some help. If that’s the case, tell the vendor outright that you haven’t decided on what kind of wedding you want.

- Going along with the previous statement, TALK to your vendors. They can’t read your mind and know what you want. If you don’t have anything specific that you want, tell them so they can give you ideas and suggestions.

-Don’t be afraid to ask your vendors for other referrals. Good vendors working with each other results in a good experience for ALL!

- Your wedding vendors work weekends, of course, as most weddings are on weekends. However, just because they are “working” does not mean that they are sitting at their desks all weekend. They’re out, on location, at weddings, working. Please don’t be worried or mad if an email you send on the weekend or at the end of the week isn’t returned immediately. I know they’re all super awesome at returning emails during the week, but come Thursday or Friday, things can turn into a madhouse preparing for weddings. Please have patience with your vendors if you send emails during “peak days”, and give them time to get back to the office and respond.

- Running late for a meeting or did life just get in the way? Call the vendor and let them know! Wedding vendors don’t have the most normal schedules, and although most of the time they’re very accommodating, more times than not they also have lots of other things on their plate.

- Something else to remember: your wedding vendors’ respective profession is their career and job. They don’t do it “on the side” or as a “hobby”. Meaning it’s their livelihood and how they put food in their family’s mouth, just like your job. Yes, they love what they do and it’s a fun, rewarding job, but they also have to make money. Their prices are what they are because it’s what they live off of.

- Some vendors you have that may be working with family members on the day of your wedding (coordinator, planner, photographer, videographer, DJ) won’t know what their names are unless you specifically tell them. Give them specific names for your bridal party and any family involved. For photos, have a family member act as the “round up person” to get needed family members efficiently.

- And of course- sorry to sound like a broken record- everything is better and easier when you have a wedding planner/coordinator. It’s pretty much unanimously agreed upon by all wedding vendors.

You're "Looking" at a new WPJA Member!

I was quite thrilled this week to learn that I was accepted for membership into the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA). I have heard stories from photographers all over the country of how hard it is to get in, some people applying multiple times with still no luck, so when I got the email only a week later welcoming me as a new member of the WPJA I was elated.

So, what is the WPJA, you ask? For non-photographers reading this, here are some excerpts from their site:

"The Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA) is a professional organization composed of photojournalists and wedding photographers from around the world. What sets our members apart in the industry is their candid, documentary approach – a distinctly artistic vision toward wedding photography."

"The Wedding Photojournalist Association puts the world’s best wedding photography at your fingertips. We offer a new perspective on wedding photography - quietly capturing the real moments as they happen for the bride and groom. It is our goal to use photography to tell the story of your wedding day, not dictate it for you."

"IMPORTANT NOTE: Membership in the WPJA depends entirely on photographers meeting our high standards for inclusion. One CANNOT simply pay his/her way into the WPJA. We emphasize this is NOT another ad-driven wedding web site."

This is what I'm about, a story teller, driven to capture the real emotions and events of the wedding day, so it's nice to be a part of an association that helps explain my style for potential clients. I also look forward to the quarterly photo competitions!

I just got finished going through & editing all of Brian & Kyadda's wedding photos and wanted to share some that my mom, a.k.a. the 2nd photographer, took. It's so important to not only have another person there to catch anything I may miss but to have another point of view as well. I can't be in two places at once and even if I could, I wouldn't see the same thing the same way & capture it exactly the same as another person. In celebration of this fantastic fall-like weather this week I have decided to offer a very limited-time Senior Portrait Special. Set up your Senior session appointment by August 31, 2010 and receive 15% off your session fee! This means the session can take place anytime in the next 9 months, not that you have to have the session in a week. So all you have to do is give me a call or submit my website contact form, pick a day and pay 1/2 of the discounted session fee and you're set! The remainder of the session fee won't be due until the day of the session. And, don't worry about bad weather either. If the weather doesn't cooperate for us on your session day we can reschedule for a time that is good for everyone, possibly even the day or week after, without any added fees (nobody can control the weather!) But more days like these would definitely be welcome!

Kyadda + Brian's Lone Summit Ranch Wedding

Kyadda & Brian were married on a Thursday at the Lone Summit Ranch in Lee's Summit, MO. When we arrived Kyadda was still getting the finishing touches put on while Brian and the guys played cards in their dressing room. We dodged storms all day long on their wedding day (I'm sensing a recurring theme here). It was pouring on our drive there but the sun came out just in time for them to see each other beforehand at the gazebo. It rained again during their ceremony but cleared off right after so we were able to make it outside again before sunset for a few more shots on the beautiful grounds at LSR. I could have spent an hour just photographing them at all the pretty areas there but we were all quickly melting! All in all, it was a perfect day and being that their theme was "Lucky in Love" it was only fitting that they had lots of lucky rain to send them on their way to Ireland for their honeymoon. How perfect is that? :o)

Madison's Senior Safari

Madison, her mom & I met up on a hot & swampy day in July for her senior photo shoot. We dodged thunderstorms for weeks but finally got a really great day so we went for it! We went all over Lee's Summit and had lots of time for multiple outfit changes. It was a memorable shoot for sure. We ended with her mom's fantastic idea to do a mermaid look with Madison wearing her prom dress in a waterfall. She supplied the idea & dress & I knew just the location to do it. It turned out beautifully! Madison later got to wash the pond scum out of her hair and we ended up with some of my favorite images ever!

MariAlice's Newborn Session

MariAlice was born at the beginning of July and we did her newborn photos about a week later. She is the sweetest little thing! She definitely didn't like any draftiness on her so we had to be patient in getting her sound asleep for the 2nd half of the session. Mom knew just what to do though and it all turned out beautifully. She slept like a champ as I moved her and got everything just right. Here are some of my favorite images from her session.

Gina, Sal & I had so much fun during their shoot a couple weeks ago! They had their siblings come along for a bit at the beginning at Loose Park, then we headed to the Western Auto building for some fantastic shots on the rooftop. It was a lot of fun for me since I'd never had the opportunity to shoot there. And I'm sure it was fun for them too because it was so private & feels like you're the only ones in the city up there.

Perfect views, great scenery and the FUN Western Auto sign made for a memorable engagement session with the two of them.

At the end of the session I broke out the lollipops! They had been waiting for them the whole time so by the time they got to them they went a little sugar-crazy! I love their expressions here.

Mindy + Kyler = Married

Kyler & Mindy were married at the First Presbyterian Church in St. Joseph, Missouri and held their reception at Stoney Creek Inn.

I first met Mindy & Kyler last fall and did their engagement session when it was still chilly out in early spring. During all of our meetings and conversations a feeling of sheer excitement jumped out at me from them. They are such a sweet couple and wore their emotions on their sleeves. They couldn't wait to be husband & wife.

The wedding day was just perfect, sunny & warm, and after such a wet spring this was no small miracle. When it came time for their first meeting on their wedding day, I sent Kyler out into the courtyard of the church. Mindy was putting on the finishing touches inside. Both were bundles of nerves in anticipation of seeing each other, which led to laughter & tears and gasps of relief & excitement when they were finally face to face. I thought Kyler might just pass out! I don't think I've ever witnessed such an emotional first meeting! It was truly beautiful and a wonderful beginning of the rest of their lives together.

After a couple reschedules of their session due to unpredictable fall weather we finally had Nicole & Lauren's engagement session! It was chilly and the leaves were gone but it was still a great time. I had a ton of fun shooting somewhere I don't get to as often as I'd like -- the country (and they found a great old town that had an old mill & silos & railroad tracks). And we even got some with their adorable & playful dog, Bo. He was a great sport, as long as I kept squeaking his favorite toy for him. ;o)

I loved hanging out with Tiffany & Kyle for their urban engagement session in the Crossroads, at Liberty Memorial and a short stop at the Scout statue for a great Kansas City skyline view.

Kyle is the one who is not really into having his picture taken but you'd never know it by the pictures! They are both just so at ease with each other it's really sweet. :o) And makes my job that much more fun & exciting when people are so in love.

Ashley + Adam = The Wedding Day

On a perfectly gorgeous day on Sept 12th Ashley & Adam were married at the beautiful gold-domed Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in downtown Kansas City. Their reception followed at the Grand Ballroom at Bartle Hall nearby.

I spent the afternoon with the girls as they got ready and Karen, my 2nd photographer spent the afternoon before the ceremony with the guys. These are just some of my favorite images of their day. Hope you all enjoy these!

It was such a pleasure and honor to be a part of their day. More than once tears were brought to my eyes throughout the day. :o)

The girls (all 9 of them, plus the bride and her mother) got ready at Ashley's mother's. We had a great view of downtown from where she lives. One of the bridesmaids played DJ for the afternoon and now I can't get Miley Cyrus out of my head! haha

Ashley gave each of her bridesmaids monogrammed towels to lounge around in as they got their hair and makeup done before the ceremony. I loved Ashley & Adam's color combination of green and brown.

These girls were a riot! I'd tell you what they were talking about here but lets just leave that a mystery for now. ;o) Let's just say we were all rolling with laughter.

Ashley is such a natural beauty she really didn't need makeup but once she was all done up she looked even more glamorous.

I loved this moment between Ashley & her father after everyone else had left for the ceremony on the trolley and we stayed behind. It was so quiet in these moments before we loaded up to head to the ceremony.

While Ashley was finishing up getting ready I took the girls outside for some fun shots before it was time for them to head off to the ceremony.

What we'd all been waiting for--time to get married!

This was a relatively short ceremony for a Catholic wedding but I still found some moments to snap a few shots of the littlest guests.

I loved how the Father stood down below them so that they and the wedding party faced all the guests. This is a view of the bride and groom you don't often see during the ceremony.

And the coolest part of their ceremony sent chills up my spine. :o) 2 bag-pipers entered and led them back down the aisle for the recessional as the church bells rang from above.

Their cake was HUGE! :o) And beautiful. It was made by Cakes by Rama Sola. And I totally fell in love with the table arrangements. Each one was just a little different so I could have posted 10 on here & each one is gorgeous in its own way. I loved the moss and flowers & votives at the base of the candelabras. And the flowers & votives hanging from them were so romantic. Each place setting was also set with a fruit compote that added extra yumminess to the tables. The ballroom is a really fantastic & unique space for a wedding reception. The walls change colors gradually and added a wonderful ambiance for their reception.

They were very nice to each other when feeding each other the cake. No smooshing the cake. It was very sweet!

Their first dance as the band played. The Michael Beers Band really got the party going!

Susan + Randy = True Love at Last!

Randy & Susan met through eHarmony and within a very short time knew they'd found love. They were married on August 8 at Unity Village in the Fillmore Chapel. It was a beautiful location for their intimate ceremony and reception. It was truly a special day and I always feel so honored to be a part of these occasions in people's lives.

Best wishes Susan & Randy! May you have many joyful years together.

These favors were so unique...the green "sunshine" on each card contained embedded wildflower seeds for each guest to take home and plant as a remembrance of their wedding day and declared that they "Flourish in Love."

Susan & Randy's day was filled with so many special moments but this was one of the best I've seen in a while--they were serenaded to an Italian love song. How romantic!

Jordan + Shawn = Engaged!

Okay okay, so Jordan & Shawn are getting really close to being married already so their engagement is almost over. I'm late in getting this blog post done because I had to stop & have a baby right during the height of "wedding" season!

Jordan found me for their engagement pictures because they were planning a destination wedding for this summer. So we went around the city and then did some country shots at Olathe Lake. I loved working with them and they even had me cracking up! As you can tell, they are a really fun couple and so easy to photograph. Their joy just shined through.

I met Ashley & Adam for their engagement session in Parkville. Of course, knowing me, I got lost on the way there! But I found them thankfully and we had a great session! It was actually really hot in the sun but it was more than welcome after all the reschedulings they had to put up with because of the crazy spring weather. It even snowed about 6 inches when their session was originally scheduled back in March! Then lots of rain in April so we rescheduled again. But May finally brought us some great picture weather.

Ashley & Adam are planning a September wedding and I can't wait to see how everything turns out for the Big Day!

Adam brought along his dad's classic car which was so awesome for pictures! I love the color!

Candace + Ryan's Wedding

What a fun, laid-back couple these two are! It couldn't have been easy for Ryan and Candace to plan their wedding from chilly Minnesota but they pulled it off fabulously. I have to say I had a ton of fun shooting their wedding April 25th at Union Station. They topped it off with one heck of a party afterwards at the Boulevard Brewery. And they gave all the out-of-towners a genuine taste of KC by having Jack's Stack cater their reception. How awesome is that?!

Mike + Erin... the Wedding!

Here is the 2nd post of Mike & Erin's wedding day. Their Persian ceremony and New Year's Celebration was a ton of fun to photograph! I loved all the customs, traditions and getting to be a part of their special day.

It was a beautiful ceremony with Mike's father doing the reading in Farsi.

The table was loaded with all sorts of gorgeous things that held special meanings and yummy looking treats.

After their ring exchange they were given gifts from guests, starting with a gift from Mike's mother to the bride.

These looked too pretty to eat so you know I just had to take a picture! ;o)

Between the wonderful-smelling feast laid out for the guests and the Iranian singer it was clearly time to get the party started!

An Andre's cake! I LOVE Andre's...let me just count the ways. ;o) If you've never been there, add it to your list of places to visit in KC and you'll immediately fall in love with their chocolates and decadent desserts.

Mike & Erin's "first dance" actually came toward the end of the evening. But it was their first "American" dance. And to one of my new favorite songs--Lucky by Jason Mraz & Colbie Caillat.

To finish off the night of festivities they even had belly dancers! How fun is this?!

Mike & Erin were married on an absolutely perfect spring day and before their ceremony I had the chance to hop around town with them to some really pretty spots for their pictures. It's not often I get to spend 2-3 hours with just the bride & groom alone on their wedding day so this was a blast for me! And that's why it's also getting its own post. Not that I ever find it easy to narrow the selection down but after all that shooting with this great couple I just have to share. :o)

They were both naturals & took no time at all to loosen up in front of the camera. You can really see how in love and at ease they are with each other.

We started at Loose Park, one of Mike & Erin's favorite places to spend time together.

We were so fortunate that trees & flowers were already in bloom for their day. It made it even more romantic!

After a fun jumping shot on the hill to finish off our time at Loose Park, we then headed to the Kauffman Gardens.

And lastly, we finished up our pre-ceremony session at the Plaza.

PWG Bridal Show yesterday a HUGE success!

If you didn't make it to yesterday's Bridal Show you will just have to come to the fall show instead because it's something that shouldn't be missed if you're planning a wedding. There were over 1,200 brides at yesterday's show which set a record for turnout!

There are SO many vendors there to help you get things planned & booked for your day. And the fashion shows were fantastic! Our booth was right next to the people who did all the hair & makeup for them & it was a ton of fun to watch how their magic was worked. I marveled at an almost-3-year-old sitting to have her hair done for what seemed like a half hour. She was SO patient as she smacked her gum & just looked around at everything going on...I could never get my 3 year old to sit still like that for that length of time! LOL

So, here are a couple pictures I took of my booth just before the show started (there were almost 250 vendors, I was to the left of the runway).

It's been way too long since I've posted! Lots has been going on now that all the holidays are (way) in the past. January and February are busiest wedding planning months and this year has been no exception.

I've been very busy myself the last few weeks getting ready for the Perfect Wedding Guide Bridal Show that is happening this Sunday at the OP Convention Center. It's going to ROCK! So if you haven't heard about it yet or haven't registered go do it, now! There will be a TON of vendors there to help you plan your day as well as great prizes and 2 fashion shows. Oh and don't forget the catering and cake samples! :oD

The Everett Family

The Everett family & kids are always a ton of fun to have a shoot with. This is my third session with them and it just never gets old. They are a blast to be around and a family who loves to laugh it up! We went to Loose Park for their session on what must have been the busiest I've ever seen it there. We literally had to wait our turn in some areas to do our pictures! It's easy to see why this is such a popular place though.

I love this bridge so much with the tree reaching over I just can't decide out of these 2 shots below which one I like best.

I'm doing some catch-up from fall portraits so here are a couple families from the mini-sessions I started doing this year for the families at my son's preschool. They were done here in Lee's Summit at Lowenstein Park and we had perfect fall weather for them all.

This is the Wilson Family. Little Parker was just such a cutie. I pretended there was a monkey climbing all over me to get some giggles from him.

This is the Dolby family. We had their session on a nice cool fall evening under this old crabapple tree. I was a bit worried venturing over to the rocks by the waterfall & pool because of all the kids in tow but thankfully none of them got wet and it was definitely worth the little extra bit of effort!

The theme of Evie & Greg's wedding was based on their new last name together: Bartlett....pears! Pears were everywhere at the reception! We started out at Shelter Gardens for their first meeting and a photo shoot of just the two of them where we got some of my favorite images of the day.

On Saturday the 13th I had the joy of documenting Steve & Tabitha's wedding celebration in the Crossroads arts district here in Kansas City. Their ceremony and reception were held in one location which was super convenient for guests and the warehouse-turned-gallery totally fit their laid-back personalities and let their style shine through. Because of hurricane Ike we had storms all weekend but it stopped just in time for their wedding Saturday evening with only a few sprinkles here & there. But as the saying goes: rain on your wedding day is lucky!

KC Bridal Fair a Success!

I just want to do a quick post (before I take a nap-haha) to thank all the lovely brides and their fiancees, families & friends who came along for stopping by my booth at the KC Bridal Fair yesterday. I had a fantastic time & met so many wonderful people I can't wait to do it again!

I still have some openings for consultations throughout the week and wanted to remind all KC Bridal Fair couples that if you book by August 30th you get your choice of a free bridal session or a post-wedding/celebrate-the-dress session as an added bonus. Please remember to include your wedding date when you contact me to make sure I'm still available. Everyone was just so lovely to talk with I know I'm going to be working with a lot of great couples next year. :o)

Here are a handful of pictures I snapped just before the doors opened. It's a lot of work getting ready for a fair but totally worth it!

In the center is my banner stand with lights on each side and red licorice painted doors that my wonderful husband helped decorate with fun silver flowers.

Everyone was grateful for my pretty pink chairs to sit in while they looked at albums and books.
The Guest Book I had on the little white table was a HUGE hit with everyone. Couples just fell in love with it!

I also ran a slideshow of a bunch of my favorite shots. I had a hard time narrowing down but everyone loved watching it. I also had candy favor bags for everyone to take. Yum! The best part about bridal fairs, right? ;o)

KC Bridal Fair

The KC Bridal Fair is quickly approaching! It's coming up next Saturday, August 23rd at the Town Pavilion in Downtown KC from 10am-5pm. I've been working hard getting everything prepped for it and am very excited! If you haven't already pre-registered you can go to their website and do so here. This will enter you into the grand prize drawing. There's also a coupon for $2 off the regular $5 admission fee on the site so hurry up & check it out!

Katie's Senior Session

Katie will be a senior this coming school year so her mom wanted to get a head start and get them done beforehand. We met up at Loose Park...and on what seemed like the hottest day yet this year! But we had a lot of fun running around shooting as many locations as we could in as many outfits as she could! She is a speedy changer! And at the end of the session she jumped in the fountain in the rose garden to cool off!

Shawna + Albert Johnson

A couple weekends ago I met up with Shawna & Albert Johnson for their 1st anniversary/trash-the-dress photo session at the Chateau Avalon in Kansas. They were married 7/7/07!

Shawna & Albert were the sweetest couple and it was a ton of fun running around the Legends with them. We even managed a couple minutes in the fountain before getting kicked out by security! The fountain was really important to them because that's where Albert proposed to Shawna. But for the complete "trashing" of the dress fountain shots we headed back to the Avalon where they had permission to jump right in! Your mom will love these shots anyway, Shawna! ;o) Dresses can always be cleaned, right?

After the fountain we did some really fun shots with sparklers, but you'll have to wait just a little longer for those as I work on the rest of the editing. I hope you all enjoy these for now!

Trent + Sarah Mollus's Wedding

On Saturday, June 28 I had the joy of covering Sarah & Trent's gorgeous & romantic day in St. Joseph, MO at the prettiest church, the First Presbyterian Church. Their reception followed at the Moila Shrine Temple. These two are so in love and happy happy happy!! After their great engagement session in March I knew their wedding would be so wonderful to shoot. They smile and laugh so much that they are just a joy to be around. And Trent and his guys had me cracking up during their group session outside. I still have more editing to do but thought this group of shots would be a good "tide-you-over" for everyone until I get the rest finished up. Enjoy & congrats, Trent & Sarah!!

Trent & Sarah are such a fun & thoughtful couple that they treated their guests to PIZZA at their reception. Something everyone was sure to love. Yumm!
